Barota Beje Baish Book Cover Design

“Barota Beje Baish” is a Bengali horror-thriller novel written by Nabilah Nupur and published by Chilekotha Publications during the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2023. The book explores psychological suspense, supernatural mystery, and dark narrative tension through its storytelling. (Rokomari)

For this project, the goal was to create a cover that visually captured the suspense, fear, and mystery of the story while maintaining a cinematic horror atmosphere. Instead of relying on excessive visual elements, the design focused on symbolic storytelling to create curiosity and emotional impact.

The creative direction combined dark textures, cold-toned color grading, dramatic lighting, and suspense-focused composition to reflect the horror-thriller nature of the novel. The rising hand and clock imagery were used to symbolize fear, uncertainty, and the supernatural themes connected to the story.

Typography played an important role in building the overall identity of the cover. The Bengali title treatment was designed to feel sharp, unsettling, and visually memorable while remaining readable across both print and digital platforms.

Before developing the final artwork, I researched the book’s genre positioning, emotional tone, and Bengali thriller visual language to ensure the design aligned with both reader expectations and the publisher’s branding direction.

This project reflects my approach to visual storytelling through atmosphere-driven design, where every visual element is used to build tension, emotion, and narrative curiosity.
